JAIPUR: A woman teacher from Sridungargarh in Bikaner, who had 'eloped' with a 17-year-old student of her school, was arrested on Thursday on the charge of abducting the girl, and booked under the Pocso Act.The 21-year-old teacher was produced in a local court and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days while the girl was handed over to the child welfare committee, as per the law.The duo had gone missing on June 30.
With the minor's family alleging it to be a case of 'love jihad', the incident sparked protests in Sridungargarh town and adjoining areas, and right-wing outfits had even threatened Bikaner bandh on Wednesday.Locals demanded immediate arrest of the teacher and some of her family members, accusing them of trapping the girl in 'love jihad', although the woman's family, too, had lodged a police complaint regarding her disappearance. On Monday, in a video uploaded on social media, the girl claimed she and her teacher were in a "lesbian relationship", and appealed to locals not to make it a communal issue.
The duo was later traced to Tamil Nadu, and on the input of Bikaner police, Chennai cops recovered the girl and her teacher on Wednesday.
