NEW DELHI: Exasperated by various people and organisations bombarding the SC with PILs seeking reversal of rogue elephant Arikkomban's relocation, CJI D Y Chandrachud on Thursday cast aside his 'gentle demeanour' and warned lawyers against taking advantage of his reasonableness. When advocate Deepak Prakash, appearing for NGO 'Walking Eye Foundation for Animal Advocacy', repeatedly sought reversal of the rice-eating elephant's relocation from Tamil Nadu and shifting it back to Kerala, a bench of the CJI and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra asked the NGO to approach either Kerala or Madras HC for relief. When Prakash persisted and requested the SC to direct the two states to ascertain the whereabouts of the elephant as "lakhs of people are awaiting news about the pachyderm", an annoyed CJI said, "Don't attempt to take my court for a ride.

Just because I have a gentle demeanour, do not try to take advantage of it.

You will realise there is much sterner stuff within me when you (lawyers) become unreasonable."
