BENGALURU: A 28-year-old woman and her two-and-a-half-year-old son died and two others of the four-member family were injured after reinforcement iron rods for construction of a pillar for Blue Line at HBR Layout in Bengaluru crashed onto them, Tuesday morning.

218 (KR Puram-Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport) fell on the scooter in which the family of four: Tejasvini, a software engineer at Manyata, her husband Lohit Kumar, a civil engineer, son Vihan and his twin sister.
Vishmita was travelling on Outer Ring Road.Tejasvini and Vihan suffered grievous injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by onlookers, where they both died.
Lohit and Vishmita are out of danger.Bheemashankar S Guled, deputy commissioner of police (east) said the incident was reported at around 10.45am.“We will probe how the incident happened, and provide compensation to the affected family,” chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said.Residents and commuters staged a protest following the incident.
Traffic on Outer Ring Road was also affected.The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is likely to serve a notice to the contractor.BMRCL managing director Anjum Parwez said, "Only the reinforcement has bent.
Since the pillars are long we have to make some more tying arrangements.
We are working on it”.Parwez also visited the spot and announced a compensation of 20 lakh for the victim's family.He said BMRCL would bear the hospital expenses.BMRCL along with contractor Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) Ltd is undertaking Metro work on KR Puram-Hebbal-Kempegowda International Airport section.
