Accused handed death sentence over 1996 murder

The Balapitiya High Court has issued the death sentence against a 52-year-old suspect convicted of shooting and killing an individual in 1996. The incident occurred near the Ambalangoda Railway Station on 30 March 1996, according to police.The suspect, a resident of Ambalangoda, was identified as the second accused in the case and is currently residing abroad. The court ruled that the death sentence will take effect from the date of the accused’s arrest.
