Windows 10 Pro is a dead end for enterprises, a prominent Gartner analyst has argued.
"[We] predict that Microsoft will continue positioning Windows [10] Pro as a release that is not appropriate for enterprises by reducing support and limiting access to enterprise management features," Stephen Kleynhans, a research vice president at Gartner and one of the research firm's resident Windows experts, said in a report he co-authored.
[ Further reading: Windows 10 cheat sheet ]Microsoft's Windows 10 Pro occupies the middle ground between the consumer-grade Home and the corporate-level Enterprise in features, functionality and price. Because Enterprise versions of Windows have never been available to computer makers, Pro - sometimes, as in Windows 7, tagged Professional instead - has been the most popular pre-installed OS on new business PCs. (Corporations typically re-image new personal computers with Enterprise upon receipt of the devices.)

Buried inside most smartphones is a capability that few people take advantage of but that I have come to rely on more and more: the ability to turn the phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Using my phone as a hotspot (also known as Wi-Fi tethering) means that whenever I have a couple of bars of signal strength, I can get my tablet or laptop online — and share my internet connection with work colleagues. Itmy way to stay on top of work wherever I am, allowing me to read and send emails, move data back and forth with the companyservers and even get a taste of the latest office gossip from the comfort of a full-sized device.
A phone hotspot can be a serious collaboration tool for a group of business people attempting to work together. The potential ranges from a group on the way to the airport in a van finishing a group presentation to an accounting team working in a conference room with an internet connection independent of the company they&re auditing.

Apple will open up fresh opportunities for developers as it extends Near Field Communications (NFC) support in iOS to more uses.
NFC: Applestory so far
Apple introduced support for a new NFC framework called Core NFC at WWDC 2017. Developers were pleased, but the implementations were rather limited.
[ Related: WWDC 2018 preview: What can we expect ]Core NFC let developers build apps that read NFC tags, but only for things like visitor attractions and museum exhibitions.

Last week brought the return of a dedicated event for SharePoint and the rest of the Office 365 family (Teams, OneDrive, and Yammer) — the SharePoint Conference — and some long-awaited capabilities for modern sites in Office 365.
I was especially excited about all the love for metadata — bringing visibility of document metadata to Microsoft Teams (finally) — and my absolute favorite announcement: the ability to add metadata to pages in &edit& mode!
Though most of my time is spent on cloud-based solutions these days, SharePoint on prem got a lot of love, too, with the announcement that some of the best features on the cloud are coming to SharePoint 2019, including Communications Sites, Team News, and modern Team Sites to include Lists and Libraries. Write comment (99 Comments)This pilot fish does tech support for a security appliance vendor, whose customers tend to get really concerned when the security black box isn't doing its thing.
"One of the configurations we sold and supported was a pair of appliances in high-reliability mode, so that if one failed the other would take over," says fish
"One customer kept complaining that the pair of appliances could not talk to each other and, of course, failed to fail-over under test circumstances. Since they were fairly close, my manager and I went to pay them a visit in person.
"First the customer demonstrated that, while one unit seemed to work properly, the backup unit could never be seen on the network.

HarrisX says consumers would support the merger of T-Mobile US and Sprint if it does three things. If it results in lower pricing. If it boosts wireless coverage in underserved and rural areas. And if it results in economic growth. Lettake a closer look at these three areas and see what we can expect.
Regarding wireless pricing. Unfortunately, based on other mergers, what I see is higher prices, not lower. Now this merger could be different. However, based on what we have seen in the past, I think prices will rise. They will stay lower than Verizon Wireless and AT-T Mobility, but they will likely be higher than today.
Wireless price will likely rise with T-Mobile, Sprint merger
The reason is simple. Today, both T-Mobile and Sprint need to capture the imagination of the marketplace. They need something to win market share. If they had the biggest or best network, they wouldn&t have to focus on price. However, to win market share they must give the customer something else. So, they focus on price.
