RAJKOT: Yet again, two young lives were lost to sudden cardiac arrest in separate incidents on Monday in Rajkot and Gir Somnath districts.Fifteen-year-old Devansh Bhayani, a student of SGVP Gurukul in Ribda village on the outskirts of Rajkot city, collapsed on the stage while preparing for a function organized as part of Guru Purnima on Monday.
Bhayani, a native of Dhoraji town, was supposed to anchor the programme.He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead.
His postmortem revealed that he was suffering from a heart abnormality called hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOTC).A video of the incident circulated on social media shows Bhayani trying to move a podium on the stage.
However, before he could move the podium, he collapsed.A doctor who was part of the team that conducted postmortem on Bhayani's body said that the deceased was suffering from a heart-related abnormality that may not have been diagnosed."The postmortem revealed that the boy (Bhayani) was suffering from HOTC which is a cardiac abnormality where the walls of the heart become thick and block the blood flow," the doctor from the Rajkot civil hospital told TOI.
