HYDERABAD: Three women morning walkers were knocked down by a speeding car which had a 19-year-old on the wheel at Sun City main road in Narsingi early Tuesday.
While two women, a mother-daughter duo, died in the impact after being tossed in the air and flung against an electric pole, the third is battling for life at a private hospital.
The deceased Anuradha, 45, and her daughter, Mamatha, 25, are residents of Lakshmi Nagar and frequent the Hydershakote Bandlaguda stretch for a morning stroll.
The condition of the lone survivor, Malavika, is stated to be critical.CCTV footage shows the car swerving at the bend at breakneck speed, mounting on the footpath and mowing down the women, before crashing into the bushes, 50m ahead.The car driver, Mohammed Bin Qadri, a BBA student, tried to escape after abandoning his vehicle that lay in a mangled heap, but passersby nabbed him and handed him over to police.CCTV footage shows sand strewn on the road triggering a dust screen that could have curbed driving visibility on Bandlaguda X Road.
Simultaneous ejection of air balloons in the car saved the lives of Qadri and his three friends.
A bag seized from the car had a dagger and a pair of trousers.
Qadri, whos in police custody, was booked for culpable homicide.
The vehicle owner will also be booked, said police.
