Just a couple of days after Harley-Davidson launched its most affordable motorcycle, the X440, in India in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, a similar partnership between UK-based Triumph motorcycles and Bajaj Auto has launched its first motorcycle, the Speed 400 in the country.
With these products, the luxury motorcycle marques from overseas, have entered the highly contested, entry-level, mid-capacity segment in India.
In addition, it gives an opportunity to the local manufacturers to foray into the manufacturing of more premium motorcycles.In any way, these associations will aim to take a share from Royal Enfields pie in India, as the segment has been dominated by the Chennai-headquartered manufacturer.
The two duos will battle amongst themselves to set a firm foot in the Indian market and launch a series of models to compete in the space between Royal Enfields Classic 350 and Interceptor 650 models.
Bajaj-Triumph Speed 400The Bajaj-Triumph co-developed Speed 400 will be powered by a liquid-cooled, 398.15cc, single-cylinder engine that churns out 39.5 hp and 37.5 Nm of peak torque.
It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
The motorcycle has been introduced at an introductory price of Rs 2.23 lakh, ex-showroom, for the first 10,000 customers.
Post that, the prices will be increased by Rs 10,000.
Harley-Davidson X440The Harley-Davidson, Hero MotoCorps co-developed X440 is the most affordable Harley ever in India.
It is powered by a 440cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder mill that makes 27 hp and 38 Nm of peak torque.
It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.The motorcycle will be available in three variants - Denim, Vivid, and Pinnacle, priced at Rs 2.29 lakh, Rs 2.49 lakh, and Rs 2.69 lakh, all prices ex-showroom.Royal Enfield Classic 350The popular RE Classic 350 comes with a 349.34cc, single-cylinder, air-oil cooled mill that generates 20.3 hp and 27 Nm of peak torque.
It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

It draws its power from a 647.95cc, air-cooled, twin-cylinder mill that belts out 47 hp and 52 Nm of peak torque.
The prices for the Royal Enfield Interceptor starts at Rs 3.03 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes up to Rs 3.31 lakh, ex-showroom.
