Open source is everywhere now, so perhaps itno surprise that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (yes, the organization behind the Oscars) today revealed that it has partnered with the Linux Foundation to introduce the Academy Software Foundation, a new open-source structure for developers in the motion picture and media space. The charter member include a number of high-powered media and tech business, consisting of Animal Logic, Blue Sky Studios, Cisco, DreamWorks, Epic Games, Google, Intel, SideFX, Walt Disney Studios and Weta Digital. & Open Source Software has enabled developers and engineers to create the amazing impacts and animation that we see every day in the relocations, on tv and in video games, & stated Linux Foundation CEO Jim Zemlin. & With the Academy Software Foundation, we are offering a home for this community of open source developers to team up and drive the next wave of innovation throughout the motion picture and more comprehensive media industries. &. The Academy Software Foundationmission statement keeps in mind that it wants to be a neural online forum & to coordinate cross-project efforts; to provide a common built and test infrastructure; and to offer individuals and companies a clear course to involvement beforehand out open source community. &. According to a survey by the Academy, 84 percent of the industry utilizes open-source software already, mostly for animation and visual effects. The group also discovered that whatholding back open-source advancement in the media market is the siloed nature of the development groups throughout the various business in this environment. & The development of the Academy Software Foundation is an essential and exciting action of the motion photo industry, & stated Nick Cannon, the chief innovation officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. & By increasing partnership within our market, it enables everyone to pool our efforts on typical structure technologies, drive new requirements for interoperability and increase the rate of innovation. &. The truth that even Hollywood is now accepting open source and its collective nature is yet another indication of how the world of software advancement has changed in recent years. Over the last few years, standard business realized that whatever technology they established to run their software application infrastructure isn & t what in fact delivers value to their clients, so it made good sense to work together in this location, even with their fiercest rivals —-- and the same, it appears, now is true for the Hollywood studios, too (or a minimum of for those that have actually now joined the new foundation).

Applebeen on a tear lately. Say what you will about some of the companyprogramming decisions (see: Carpool Karaoke), at least itbuilding a portfolio thatgot a little something for everyone.

Earlier this week, word got out that it ordered a series based on Min Jin Leenovel, Pachinko. And according to a report in Variety, italso added new comedy by a couple of members of the ItAlways Sunny in Philadelphia gang.

The half-hour scripted sitcom will be penned by Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, with McElhenney taking the lead as an employee at a video game studio. Along with RCG (the pairproduction company) and Lionsgate, the show will also, fittingly, be co-produced by Ubisoft, which should add a bit of authenticity to the thing — and hopefully not too much product placement.

Details are scant otherwise, and Day, McElhenney and the rest of the Sunny gang are set to return for a 14th season of that show, which could complicate scheduling. Still, color me intrigued. ItAlways Sunny in Philadelphia is among the funniest sitcoms of the past decade, and the showsensibilities should translate pretty well to the new setting.

As someone whobeen unable to watch Silicon Valley due to that series hitting a little too close to home at times, I&m holding out hope on this one.

The Note 9 has a novel-sounding water carbon cooling system, but it may not be as meaningful as Samsung claimed at Thursday's launch, according to new tests today.

In fact, there was no noticeable difference between Note 8 and Note 9 temperatures in a series of three tests using a heat gun for measurement, says Tom's Guide.
